Wyoming Area student presents senior project to pediatric patients of Geisinger Wyoming Valley
Wilkes-Barre - A Wyoming Area student found a way to make her senior project not only a requirement but made the project very meaningful for herself as well as its recipients- local pediatric patients.
Jessie Hardiman, a senior at Wyoming Area, recently presented the Janet Weiss Children’s Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley with a gift of 26 boxes adapted from the nationally recognized Jared Box Project. Each box Jessie created consisted of age-appropriate toys that are to be distributed to children with leukemia and other chronic illnesses.
“I thought this project looked interesting, and I learned a lot about leukemia in my research, said Jessie who prepared a presentation for her classmates and then presented the boxes to the nurses and pediatric patients at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
The Jared Box Project was established in 2000 by the children of Our Lady of Victory School in State College, Pa in honor of a classmate and friend who lost the battle with cancer. The goal of the Jared Box Project is to lift the spirits of chronically ill children. The boxes, like the ones Jessie prepared, symbolize the importance of play and are filled with well wishes, hope and love.
