Wilkes-Barre native returns to area to join family medicine practice at Geisinger - Kistler Clinic

WILKES-BARRE – Susan Werner, MD, joins a growing group of physicians at Geisinger–Kistler Clinic as an associate in family medicine. She specializes in women’s health issues and geriatrics.

Originally from Hanover, Dr. Werner is returning to Wilkes-Barre after attending medical school out of the area. Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Werner earned her medical degree with a concentration in women’s health at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine as well as a fellowship in geriatric health at Palmetto Health in Columbia, South Carolina.

An advocate against domestic violence, Dr. Werner conducted several research projects on understanding behavioral changes in female victims of domestic violence while serving as a research assistant at Magee Women’s Research Institute in Pittsburgh. She also spent time volunteering as a domestic violence medical advocate volunteer at the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.

Recognizing the importance of community service, Dr. Werner worked as a volunteer physician at the local free medical clinic while living in Columbia. She looks forward to getting involved with the Wilkes-Barre community in a similar way.
