Gergel named director of stereotactic radiosurgery

thomas gergel, md, radiosurgeryDANVILLE — Thomas J. Gergel, MD, recently joined Geisinger Medical Center as Director of Stereotactic Radiosurgery.

Dr. Gergel previously served as an associate in radiation oncology at the Guthrie Clinic, Sayre, Pa., and Corning, N.Y. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y., and his medical degree from University at Buffalo School of Medicine, Buffalo, N.Y.

He completed his residency at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, N.Y., which included specialized training in gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy and intensity modulated radiation therapy. He was awarded the American College of Radiation Oncology Howard H. Wong Fellowship for supplemental training at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, in March 2003.

Dr. Gergel is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Radiology and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
