
Geisinger teams with prominent national healthcare providers to study cardiovascular disease, find new treatments
DANVILLE – Geisinger Center for Health Research has joined the Cardiovascular Research Network, comprised of many of the top healthcare organizations in the country, to study the prevention, management and long-range effects of cardiovascular disease.
The network will study patients with cardiovascular disease from communities across the country over a long period of time to find ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivery.
Utilizing the resources of Geisinger Health Plan, researchers from Geisinger Center for Health Research will work with the following organizations: Kaiser Permanente research affiliates in Oakland, CA, Denver, Honolulu, Portland, OR, Atlanta, GA; Meyers Primary Care Institute, Worcester, MA; Center for Health Studies at Group Health, Seattle, WA; Department of Ambulatory Care and Prevention at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Boston, MA; HealthPartners Research Foundation, Minneapolis, MN; Lovelace Clinic Foundation, Albuquerque, NM; Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, Marshfield, WI; the Division of Research and Education at Scott & White, Temple, TX.
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute is providing $7.5 million for the Network.
About 700,000 people die of heart disease in the United States each year, which is more than a quarter of all deaths in this country.
