Geisinger set to open state-of-the-art Sports Medicine Center in July

May 2, DANVILLE — Geisinger will open its new Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, located on Woodbine Lane, Danville in early July.

The 33,000 square foot, $6.8 million building will be located inside the same complex as Geisinger’s Outpatient Surgery Center. The comprehensive, facility will be a one-stop complex for orthopaedic visits, radiology services, and rehabilitation for sports injuries complex with features such as:

• HydroWorx® therapy pool— warm water therapy with an adjustable treadmill floor, jets for resistance, and video capabilities
• A hand therapy room serviced by two certified hand therapists
• A 60 foot track and netting for evaluation and rehabilitation of sports injuries
• Work related rehabilitation area and functional capacity evaluations
• Two rooms for cast application and removal
• 20 exam rooms
• Procedure room
• State-of-the-art rehabilitation gym
• Two fully equipped locker rooms

Open MRI available
Two X-ray rooms and an open MRI will also be located on-site. An open MRI provides a more comfortable experience for children or patients who are claustrophobic or oversized.

Sports medicine provider of choice
The new Sports Medicine Center will allow Geisinger to provide high quality, convenient sports medicine and orthopaedic care to area athletes. “Our mission is to be the sports medicine provider of choice for area high school, collegiate and other athletic teams,” said Daniel Feldmann, MD, Geisinger Health System’s Chief of Sports Medicine Services, “Athletes represent a unique population that requires special medical attention.”

New home of sports medicine team
Geisinger Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation will also be the new home of Geisinger’s Sports Medicine team, a highly trained professional staff made up of board-certified surgeons, fellowship trained primary care providers, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, athletic trainers and other orthopaedic sub-specialists.

Geisinger HealthSouth resources
The facility will also house many rehabilitation services currently located at Geisinger HealthSouth including physical therapy, occupational therapy, hand therapy, lymphadema therapy, industrial rehabilitation, and functional capacity evaluations. Overall, the new building will house 19 Geisinger employees and 18 Geisinger HealthSouth rehabilitation specialists.

Fitness center for employees
In addition, 2,100 square feet of the facility will be used as a fitness center for Geisinger employees.
