Geisinger recognized on PBS NewsHour with Jim Lehrer
Jan. 9. 2008, DANVILLE – In a PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer segment entitled Fixing the American Healthcare System, which aired on Jan. 8, Stuart Altman, PhD, professor of National Health Policy at Brandeis University, cited Geisinger Health System for its work in improving healthcare quality and value by paying for episodes of care or bundles of care.
In his remarks, Dr. Altman said Geisinger, along with Kaiser in California and Intermountain in Utah, are changing the nation’s fee for service healthcare payment system by paying for delivering high quality healthcare outcomes and not for doing extra tests or extra operations.
Geisinger’s ProvenCare® for elective coronary artery bypass surgery, in place since 2006, has demonstrated a marked reduction in hospital readmissions, complications and costs.
Today Geisinger offers ProvenCare programs for chronic and acute episodic care including diabetes, angioplasty, hip replacement surgery, bariatric surgery, cataract surgery and perinatal care.
