Geisinger recognized by HFMA
July 7, 2009, DANVILLE – The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) recently awarded Geisinger Health System with the High Performance in the Revenue Cycle Award. This honor recognizes outstanding hospitals that are achieving sound fiscal responsibility as well as positive patient experiences. The award was formally presented at this year’s ANI: The Healthcare Finance Conference in Seattle, which was held in June.
“Financial communication is one of the primary indicators of overall patient satisfaction in hospitals. It is becoming increasingly important in an environment where self pay and higher deductibles are the reality for an ever-increasing number of citizens,” said Kevin Brennan, executive vice president, chief financial officer, Geisinger.
HFMA began its evaluation by ensuring that all hospitals being considered met high patient quality and satisfaction measures, as well as financial performance measures. In the second screening, they narrowed the field to 150 U.S. hospitals, and measured these organizations for high-performing revenue cycle processes. In the final phase of evaluation, HFMA representatives conducted on-site interviews with the finalist hospitals to confirm high performance, innovation and Patient Friendly Billing® adoption. Of this group, 11 hospitals received the award, including Geisinger.
With more than 35,000 members, HFMA is the nation's leading membership organization of healthcare finance executives and leaders.
Accepting the HFMA award for Geisinger was Danielle Cerminaro, assistant manager, cost accounting and reimbursement.
