Geisinger physicians named to USA Today's "Most Influential Doctors" list

July 3, 2009, WILKES-BARRE — Ten Geisinger physicians were recently recognized in a listing presented by USA Today newspaper. “Most Influential Doctors” is an analysis by the medical information firm Qforma and lists physicians considered the “thought-leaders” around the country. The listing includes doctors who are experts in four specialties: hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma and diabetes.

The following physicians were named “Most Influential Doctors”:

• Timothy Brown, M.D., Geisinger-Mt Pocono, diabetes
• James Croley, M.D., Geisinger-Pottsville, diabetes
• Seth Fisher, M.D., Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Pearsall Heart Hospital, hypertension
• Sheldon Henry, M.D., Geisinger-Gray’s Woods, hypertension
• Francis Kane, D.O., Geisinger-Mahonoy City, diabetes/hypertension/high cholesterol
• Stephen Keil, M.D., Geisinger-Gray’s Woods, high cholesterol/hypertension
• Kevin Kollman, M.D., Geisinger-Philipsburg, diabetes/hypertension/high cholesterol
• James Langon, M.D., Geisinger-Frackville, diabetes
• Robert Mentyka, M.D., Scenery Park, asthma
• Philip Pilgram, M.D., Geisinger-Philipsburg, diabetes/hypertension/high cholesterol

According to USAToday, “These are the doctors other doctors listen to, send patients to and can influence care.”

Doctors were considered for the list based on a range of variables, including books and articles they have published, the studies they have carried out, academic achievements, referral patterns, diagnoses, procedures, their prescribing activity, their hospital affiliations and more.

The goal of the survey is to “offer consumers an innovative resource that they may factor into the complex decision of how to choose a doctor.”
