Geisinger named finalist in international IT competition
Web and Clinical Content teams recognized as outstanding by KM Magazine Reality Award
Oct. 28, 2009, DANVILLE – Geisinger’s Web and Clinical Content Management teams, under the leadership of Dave Young and E. Sue Brown respectively, were recently notified that they are finalists in KMWorld magazine's 2009 KMReality Award competition. The competition recognizes knowledge management as a positive reality.
Geisinger’s nod was for its development of a centralized process for creating and managing the organization’s thousands of policies and procedures that supports compliance, eliminates duplication and inconsistency, and enables fast and effective access through Geisinger’s INFOweb employee intranet.
The finalist entry is a formal process for creating, updating, managing, approving and accessing all hospital manuals, including converting from paper-based to online policies; improving access across facilities; eliminating duplicate and dated content; developing a consistent format and look for all content; creating an approval workflow process that provides a mechanism for meeting regulatory guidelines imposed by Pennsylvania and the federal Joint Commission; dramatically improving access to and the ability to search for policy content throughout the INFOweb intranet; establishing an oversight committee to monitor compliance and identify personnel responsible for keeping manuals current; and developing a process to archive manuals electronically for five years with the ability to access older policies online, as needed.
"To be a KMReality Award finalist is truly an honor as it recognizes how our technology solves real-world challenges," said Young. “We thank KMWorld for recognizing Geisinger and the combined team effort in solving this challenge.”
