Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre to offer phlebotomy training
DANVILLE – Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre will begin a 15-week phlebotomy training program in 2010, with courses starting on Jan. 11. The program is now accepting applications, and the deadline to apply is Oct. 24.
Phlebotomists are health professionals who draw blood from patients or blood donors for medical testing. They also can prepare and process blood tests. Typically, phlebotomists work in hospitals, medical clinics or blood donation centers.
Students will learn a wide range of phlebotomy techniques to obtain blood samples from adult and pediatric patients.
After successful completion of the program, students will be well-prepared and eligible for the American Society for Clinical Pathology Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam, which will improve their chances for future employment opportunities.
The program will be held at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, a campus of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. For more information, contact Terri McElhattan, 570-214-7209.
