Geisinger Medical Center receives grant for Community Health Library Workstation

DANVILLE - Geisinger Medical Center’s Community Health Library was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.  The grant was used to purchase an Assistive Technology Computer Workstation at the library.

The workstation features a variety of technology tools enabling the public and patients who have low/no vision or fine motor disabilities to access health information.  The independent workstation allows information to be viewed online or in print by converting information to large print or MP3/WAVE audio files. Individuals unable to visit the library can request files be mailed directly to their homes.

“The library provides the community with information enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyle,” says Tricia Ulmer, Community Health Resource Librarian.  “All services are available to the public, free of charge.”

In addition to the Assistive Technology Computer Workstation, health information is provided in a variety of formats, including books, medical journals/newsletters, pamphlets, videos and databases. Patrons also have access to two computers with high-speed Internet connections and health-related videos.

The Community Health Library is located in the Main Lobby of Geisinger Medical Center. To learn more about Geisinger’s Community Health Library or to schedule a free demonstration of the workstation, call 271-5638.
