Famiglio to chair national accreditation council

May 16, DANVILLE — Linda M. Famiglio, MD, FAAP, is chair-elect for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Institutional Review Committee. A pediatric neurologist and Associate Chief Medical Officer for Academic Affairs at Geisinger Medical Center, she also serves as a course director and committee member for the Association of American Medical College Group on Resident Affairs.

A pediatric neurologist at Geisinger since 1994, Dr. Famiglio is a graduate of Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass, and Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. She completed her residency training (Pediatrics and Neurology) at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, and fellowship training at the University of Washington, Seattle. She became Geisinger’s Director of Academic Affairs in 1999, and has been Associate Chief Medical Officer for Academic Affairs since 2002.
 
A noted national and international speaker on epilepsy and pediatric neurology, Dr. Famiglio has been listed among the Best Doctors in America since 1998. Her work in medical education has earned grants from several groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In her new position, Dr. Famiglio will help ensure optimal training for medical residents by judging whether the country’s 700 accredited institutions meet standards for accreditation. “We must provide physicians leadership training as well as instill a commitment to providing quality care. My experience at Geisinger in measuring quality and in measuring quality data will help me in this new position.”
