Colorectal surgeon, Asish Mukherjee, MD, joins GWV

May 2 WILKES-BARRE - Colorectal surgeon, Asish Mukherjee, MD, has joined Geisinger Wyoming Valley as an associate in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Mukherjee graduated from the Medical College of Calcutta and received his Master of Surgery degree from Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College of the Calcutta University, Calcutta, India.

He was the Senior House Officer at The Ipswich Hospital in Ipswich, England, before completing his surgical residency at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York.

Dr. Mukherjee is fellowship trained in laparoscopy, colon, and rectal surgeries from the Cleveland Clinic.

Prior to coming to Geisinger, Dr. Mukherjee was a Practicing Surgeon and Assistant Professor in Surgery at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

A member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Dr. Mukherjee has contributed work to several medical journals including AIDS Patient Care, The American Surgeon, and The South Dakota Journal of Medicine.
