CareSite Pharmacy opens in Pottsville

Feb. 2, 2006, DANVILLE - On Tuesday, Jan. 3, Geisinger opened its eighth CareSite pharmacy in the new Geisinger Medical Group-Pottsville, located on Terry Reiley Way, in the Louis Fanelli Professional Center in Pottsville.

Located in the Geisinger Medical Group – Pottsville, the CareSite Pharmacy provides a unique level of service to patients, according to Dr. Thomas R. Graf, director of Schuylkill County operations for Geisinger Health System. Its convenient location is an added benefit to patients, he noted, “it allows patients the opportunity to consult with a CareSite pharmacist immediately following their physician visit and between visits to their physician."

CareSite is part of Geisinger’s SureHealth Pharmacy, one of the first major efforts by Geisinger Ventures to capitalize on Geisinger’s clinical expertise. “Geisinger owns a majority share of the business, and its proceeds will ultimately be reinvested in the system’s core patient-care operations”, explained Denise Prince, CEO, Geisinger Ventures. Geisinger partnered with EDG Partners, LLC, to establish SureHealth to expand it’s retail and institutional pharmacy and Geisinger Long-Term Care Pharmacy businesses.

Providing a full line of prescription medication, over-the-counter medicine and pharmaceutical products to its customers, the CareSite Pharmacy in Pottsville may soon offer home deliveries and online. The clinical services of CareSite include:

• comprehensive pharmacy management and consultation for patients with difficult-to-treat, chronic conditions
• customized patient strategies to improve compliance to prescribed regimens
• patient consultation regarding clinical alternatives designed to reduce the patient financial burden.

According to pharmacist and Pottsville-native Lisa Gerber, the site will host a variety of community awareness events, such as providing child identification kits at the pharmacy.

Gerber says her goal is simple, "I want to offer personable service, like the kind the Mom-and-Pop stores used to provide to their customers.”
