
Bruce Simon, MD, named Trauma Director at Geisinger Medical Center
March 3, DANVILLE - Bruce J. Simon, MD, has joined Geisinger Medical Center as the director of trauma. A graduate of New York University and New York Medical College.
Dr. Simon holds multiple board certifications in general surgery, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and surgical critical care. He served surgical residencies at: North Shore University Hospital, New York Medical College; Albert Einstein Medical College; and University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Dr. Simon served his fellowship in critical care at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and in trauma surgery at Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Service System, Baltimore.
Before joining Geisinger, Dr. Simon was director of trauma and surgical critical care at Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola and an associate professor of surgery at the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Stony Brook. In that position, he managed all components of their Level 1 trauma service and oversaw all components of surgical critical care service. Dr. Simon also offered and directed an Advanced Trauma Life Support course (ATLS).
A member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American Trauma Society and the Surgical Society of New York Medical College, Dr. Simon is the author of numerous articles on trauma and thoracic surgery. Most recently, he authored Pain Management in Blunt Thoracic Trauma: A Practice Management Guideline. In 2004 he received the Faculty of the Year award at the State University of New York at Stony brook.
Dr. Simon served on the Trauma Center Designation Site Review Committee and the New York State Department of Health Trauma Systems Committee where he participated in the drafting legislation for Trauma Designation Review Standards. He also served as a regional representative to the New York State Emergency medical Systems Advisory Committee.
