GWV Women's Imaging CenterWILKES-BARRE — Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) has introduced a comprehensive breast care program that brings convenient and compassionate breast health services to women of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Breast Care Program, located at the Center for Women’s Imaging, offers an innovative, seamless approach to screen, diagnose and treat women with breast disease at one convenient location.

“Our unique breast care team of radiologists, breast surgeons, pathologists, technologists and nurses works together to provide faster results, speeding time toward treatment if further care is needed,” explains Eric Bieber, MD, chief medical officer at GWV. “This program will ultimately improve the outcomes for women diagnosed with breast cancer in this region,” he continued.

Housed in the Center for Women’s Imaging on the lower level of the Valley Medical Building on the Geisinger Wyoming Valley campus, women immediately experience a serene, private atmosphere designed exclusively for them. Warm, inviting colors and a caring, attentive staff add to the spa-like atmosphere. There, women have access to an array of advanced imaging and diagnostic testing such as digital mammography, ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy and DXA Scan bone density testing.

“Routine mammograms are an important part of maintaining good breast health, but when a woman finds a breast lump the waiting for tests and results can be most unsettling,” said Lissa Bryan-Smith, chief administrative officer at GWV. “If a woman needs further testing and treatment, her care is coordinated by a nurse liaison, who makes sure the patient is seen quickly by the region’s most experienced breast specialists. This individualized care and immediate follow-up is what sets GWV’s breast program apart.”
